Te Arataura Elections Next Week

Thursday, 1 February 2024

The nomination process for the office holder positions for the Te Arataura which is the Executive Governance Board for Waikato-Tainui will be held next week.

Te Arataura will be meeting on 9 February to appoint a Chair and Deputy.

These elections are facilitated by the Kaahui Ariki representative in accordance with the rules set out in our constitution. Kaahui Ariki representative Ngira Simmonds says once we are in a position to confirm the appointment of Chair and Deputy then we will first make our tribal parliament know ahead of a wider public release.

On 13 January 2024, Te Whakakitenga held its Triennial Special Meeting and elected its Chair and Deputy Chair, as well as the Whenua and Appointments Committee members.

Tipa Mahuta (Waahi Paa) is the newly elected Chair of Te Whakakitenga flanked by one of the newest members of our house, the Deputy Chair Ngatitahinga Wilson (Makaurau Marae). “We are looking forward to working with the new executive board members (Te Arataura) and we’re confident that the talent the new members bring, combined with the experience of those returning will make for a successful term ahead” says Ms Mahuta.
