Please also remember that all our sports and event coordinators are volunteers. They are gifting their time, energy and expertise to this kaupapa, so be kind and thankful. We all know we love a good Marae vs Marae battle on the sports grounds, but remember the name of the Games is whakawhanaungatanga and above all fair play, manaakitanga!

 

Hopuhopu Games

(22nd - 23rd Feb)
TE WHIIKOI ROA

Ko John raaua ko Moeroa Devonshire ngaa coordinators.

The whiikoi roa will be held at Hopuhopu. Meet at the administration area in front of the gym and Te Whakakitenga Chambers. 

Extra points will be awarded for: ▪ Best dressed Marae ▪ Most vocal Marae ▪ Best Marae waiata/haka/chant

Immediately following the whiikoi roa is the Marae March. Please wait by the gym area at 8.15am for the Marae March.

 

TOA HAAKARIMATA TOA

Ko Tangihaere Ormsby te coordinator.

TOA Haakarimata will be held at the Haakarimata Track, Brownlee Ave, Ngaaruawaahia on February 22nd, 2020 between 10am and 2pm. Please note there will be other people on the track.

PAA-WHUTUPOORO (TOUCH)

Touch will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator immediately after games opening. Touch will accommodate the first 48 teams registered. A Tamaiti and Kaumaatua must be on the field at all times.

POITUUKOHU (BASKETBALL)

Basketball will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator immediately after games opening. Basketball will accommodate the first 40 teams registered. A Tamaiti and Kaumaatua must be on the court at all times.

POIREWA (VOLLEYBALL)

Volleyball will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator immediately after games opening. Volleyball will accommodate for the first 46 teams registered.

POITARAWHITI (NETBALL)

Ko Hohi Moeke raaua Karen Newport Netball ngaa coordinators.

The Netball will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator immediately after games opening.

SATURDAY TOURNAMENT Ladies Netball (only) will accommodate the first 24 FEMALE-ONLY teams registered. A Tamaiti and Kaumaatua must be on the court at all times.

SUNDAY TOURNAMENT Mixed Netball (even spread of women and men) will accommodate the first 24 MIXED teams registered. A Tamaiti and Kaumaatua must be on the court at all times. One team per Marae. Remaining players for each team should have a spread of ages from 13-45yrs. Male Component: On court maximum, three (3) males per team Positioned as follows: either GS or GA WA or C or WD GD or GK.

POIKOOPIKO (TABLE TENNIS)

Ko Quentin Hoete raaua ko Rawiri Walker ngaa coordinators.

Table Tennis will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator games opening. 1. Table Tennis will accommodate the first 28 teams registered. 2. A team is to comprise of three players (please see Team composition rule below). A Tamaiti and Kaumaatua must be part of the make-up of the team. Reserve players are allowed but only tamariki can replace tamariki and kaumaatua can replace kaumaatua. ALL teams are expected to be at the table tennis area before the March Past. Managers are to report to the administration area to confirm your attendance.

KUKUME TAURA (POWER PULLING)

Ko Hano Green te coordinator.

Power pulling will be held at Hopuhopu on 22 – 23 February 2020. Please confirm attendance with the coordinator after games opening. Power pulling will accommodate the first 16 teams registered for each category. NZ Power Pulling Association Rules apply. Each marae are able to register up to five teams for the following categories: - Tamariki - Rangatahi - Waahine - Taane – Kaumaatua. For the Tamariki, Rangatahi and Kaumaatua grades there must be two (2) females participating. A Tamaiti is classed as a person of either gender aged 9 – 13 yrs. A Rangatahi is classed as a person of either gender aged 14 – 17 yrs. A Kaumaatua is classed as a person of either gender aged 45+ yrs. A Wahine and Taane is classed as a person at any age over 18 yrs. 6. Tamariki, Rangatahi and Kaumaatua will be run on Saturday 22nd February 2020 Waahine and Taane will be run on Sunday 23rd February 2020.

UKA (EUCHRE)

Ko Jade Hohaia te coordinator.  

This is the second year that uka is being offered. For the 2020 Tainui Games we are playing six handed uka again. With 3x people per marae forming a uka tournament team. We are looking at having 30 teams to ensure our officials have good line of sight over all of the tables. ▪ The 3x people from each marae will not be playing as individuals [cut throat] but playing as a tournament team in six handed uka. The same as Tainui Games 2018. Each team will require a team captain – team captains are responsible for score cards and taking responsibility for the conduct of their players.

TIAKI TAIAO (PEST REMOVER)

Ko Taroi Rawiri te coordinator.  

All Pests will be weighed in at Hopuhopu on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd February 2020 from 9am to 2pm. PEST Categories: Koi Carp – Heaviest Individual Koi Carp.  Catfish – Heaviest Individual Catfish. Possum – Heaviest Individual Possum. Combined Catch – Heaviest combined total weight of, Koi, Catfish and Possum. The Bonus Point Trifecta – The Team Must consist of at least one (1) Kaumaatua, one (1) Pakeke and one (1) rangatahi.

NGAA WHETU O TAINUI (TALENT QUEST)

Ko Takirau Paekau te coordinator.

The Ngaa Whetu o Tainui Talent Quest, will take as many registrations as the programme allows. All participants must register to their primary marae and placing will go towards overall marae points. Each performance will be judged and all participants will receive a prize.
